Biscuit City. – Origin of Name. – Biscuit city, a small collection of houses southwest of Kingston, received its name from a peddler who, during his business tour, said he had called at every house in the place and had found every family very busy in cooking biscuits, and he had not met such a thing before in any part of the State where he had peddled. This was before the general introduction of wheat flour into the ‘family economy, a fact of more recent introduction than most people are aware of.
